Mixed Media Cubist Animals
Mixed Media Cubist Animals
by Rowland Hall Lower School’s 5th grade art students
Art Instructor: Kathryn Czarnecki
In this project, Rowland Hall Lower School fifth grade art students discover a different way to visually portrait an animal. The students experimented with color, line, shape and creative medium. They were inspired by cubist art of the artists Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Juan Gris’, and Maria Vorobieff-Stebelska.
In regard to the artistic process, each art piece started with students tracing each other's head and torso silhouette on a large white piece of paper. They then experimented with tracing geometric shapes with plastic and tin container forms with oil pastels. Students took the artwork further with watercolor and acrylic paint. Through mixed media exploration, students composed a unique composition of an animal. Each piece of artwork expresses a student's individual visual cubist expression.
